on saturday morning, robert & I got up early & drove out to the blueberry farm to do a little picking. it was a beautiful day, not typical of a florida summer. there was a breeze in the air & not an ounce of humidity. we ended up with over 4 pounds of blueberries in about an hour. I have grand plans of everything i'm going to make with them, but last year when we went, they were so sweet & delicious that we ended up eating them all by the handful.

breakfast (or dinner) bread bowls
aaaand pinterest saves us yet again from another night of cereal for dinner. robert baked up these little "breakfast" bread bowls thanks to this recipe & they were delicious. so delicious that we also made them again for breakfast the next day. you just scoop out the bread from a roll & fill it with whatever you choose. we used some sliced ham, cherry tomatoes, chives, boursin cheese & an egg. then you bake them until everything gets nice & melty. serve them with some potatoes & fruit & it's a perfect meal, any time of day.

ombré cake pops
a few weekends ago we celebrated my dear friend heather's second baby, due next month. for the shower, her friends decided to make all of her favorite foods that she's been craving during her pregnancy. and one of them is cake pops (which I happen to crave every day of my life). so I was stoked about making them. I decided to go with the ever-popular ombré motif. it's really easy to do. you just make cake pops the normal way (see bakerella's post on that) but just add a drop or two of food coloring to the melted chocolate, dip a few pops, add more color, dip a few more. you get the picture. I stuck mine into styrofoam that I had covered with kraft paper. they look like art & are such a pretty display (although they don't last long!).

may cookie: ginger snaps
I'm a couple weeks behind on the may cookie, so please excuse the delay. now I love cookies, but a cookie without chocolate? not my fave. but my friend at work had a birthday and her favorite cookie happens to be a ginger snap, so I thought I'd give 'em a whirl. they were very simple to make. the dough came together nicely & they developed these cute crinkles while cooking. oh, and the house smelled amazing. and best of all, kate loved them & said they tasted as good as her mom's (which is the greatest compliment of all).

the butterfly conservatory
the butterfly conservatory was about the last thing on my list of "places to visit in key west," but honestly, it was so incredibly hot outside, that we walked in to escape the heat & soak up the a.c. & ended up sticking around. we were so happy we stumbled across it, because it was pretty amazing. butterflies just floating around all over the place. it was like being in a mariah carey video or something.
{this butterfly had beautiful blue wings on the inside}
