hearts

I haven't used my sewing machine in far too long. so with valentine's day coming up, I thought it would be fun to use a bunch of the leftover felt I had to make some little decorative hearts. I just cut out two hearts of the same size, sewed them together leaving a space at the bottom to turn them under. I stuffed them with batting & stuck in a wooden dowel that I colored with a gold sharpie. then I just threw a little glue gun on the bottom to seal them up. xoxo

six years

six years ago today was one of the happiest days of my life. I married the most amazing man- someone so full of kindness, integrity, creativity, intelligence, wit & unconditional love for me. sometimes I feel it's too good to be true. he makes my life complete.

the burning house

have you guys been to this site, the burning house? it basically asks the question, "if your house was burning down, what would you grab on the way out?" people from all over the world submit their photos of what material possessions are important to them. it's kind of fascinating. do you choose something practical? or something sentimental? or do you only grab one thing & run? I got to thinking what I might take. here's my list:

  • travel journals
  • nikon d60 + lens
  • jump drive with photos
  • past & current passport
  • engagement & wedding ring
  • a mini journal filled with love notes from robert, leading up to our wedding day
  • laptop
  • blue wedding shoes
  • photo album of non-digital photos
  • fcuk perfume that is no longer being made (I have like 8 sprays left!)
  • mini dv tape of an interview I did with my grandpa
  • dvds of pictures, including wedding photographs

what would you take with you if your house was burning?

valentine's day packages o' love

inspired by pinterest, here's a super easy valentine's day craft that is fun for kids and, let's be honest, adults too.

to start, cut out various sized hearts from kraft paper. be sure to fold the paper so that it's doubled-up & each heart has a front & back. decorate them with sweet messages & designs. I also think they look pretty just leaving them undecorated.

sew around the edges, leaving a hole for stuffing. don't have a sewing machine? you can do this by hand with a needle & thread, making the stitches a lot longer. or seal using some fun washi tape on the sides. or heck, take a sharpie and color the top of some staples & then just staple around the edges. whatever works.

now the fun part. fill with treats: candy kisses, lollipops, confetti, lip gloss, hamburger erasers... you know, normal stuff.

 stitch back over the opening so that it's secure.

pass these "packages o' love" out & watch your friends rip into them with joy & excitement.

ps- what I made for robert last year for valentine's day.

thirty-five

toady my parents celebrate 35 years of marriage! I know that every marriage takes work, but mom & dad sure do make it look easy. they enjoy each other's company & find pleasure & laughter in the smallest things in life. they have set an amazing example of love, patience & loyalty for both my sister & me to follow.

check out this sweet wedding photo. isn't my dad styling in his frilly blue suit? and I think my mom looks so beautiful & natural. she said at the time it was almost taboo for a bride to wear her hair down.

I captured a little piece of their love story in this book as a gift for their anniversary. I had so much fun making it & sifting through all of their old photos. here's a little snippet. happy 35th anniversary mom & daddy!

wedding at the tpc

here are some photos from the wedding we attended this past weekend. everything was gorgeous- the weather, the flowers, the food, the bride. and to top it off, michael jackson was at the top of the dj playlist. can't get much better than that.

card catalog of love

although we aren't huge valentine people (we like to say we celebrate love every day of the year!), I wanted to do something sweet for my adorable husband for valentine's day. I saw this amazing diy project here & copied it, making dewey decimal catalog cards to document memories that we've celebrated each year.

I just used the card catalog number as the date, the book title as the name of our memory and the publisher as the location of the event. I printed them all out on cream card stock & put them into this box that I picked up an antique booth. I plan on adding new cards to the box every year, so many moons from now, we'll be able to look back and reminisce on our "chapters of love".

happy 2011

happy new year! I'm not one for making resolutions, because I know that inevitably I will end up breaking them. and that kind of bums me out. so I figure if I don't make them then I can't disappoint myself, right? pretty pathetic, I know. but regardless, I want to wish all of you a year that is filled with:

 thanks for being a part of our 2010,
k+r

a beach brunch wedding

my good high-school friend josh got married this past weekend. josh & I have been really good friends since ninth grade. our birthdays are just days apart, so we always shared joint parties because we had all the same friends. he married a sweet girl named cassy, who by total coincidence, I knew in college.they had a very sweet brunch wedding at the beach on saturday. there were lots of cute little details that cassy put together herself. robert & I took a few pictures & thought I'd share.

congratulations josh & cassy!

{starting the morning off with a bloody mary}

{many different cakes. I probably shouldn't mention they were vegan & didn't taste so great. but they sure were cute!}

{a "just married" banner on the bride & groom table}

{don't you love it when the bride seats you with people you adore, like my dear friend heather?}

{I noticed the flower girl running around barefoot & then saw her sweet little shoes on the table.}

4th anniversary

I can think of a heck of a lot of happy days in my 28 years... but none quite compare to this one. happy four year anniversary to the most loving, honest, funny, caring, handsome, talented, thoughtful husband. I am so blessed.

nothing says "i love you" like fried dough covered in powdered sugar

I'm not a huge fan of valentine's day, because (as cheesy as this sounds), I feel like everyday with robert is special.  but I'm always up for a celebration, so I made the famous cafĂ© du monde beignets for breakfast. I actually found the mix at world market & just fried them up in some oil. very easy & oh-so-delicious. we closed our eyes & pretended to be in the french quarter. ah... love & fried dough. my two favorite things.

cheers to love!
